Mara silently walked down the hall and into her room, Mick was gone and she was devastated, he had moved to Australia just as she had planned, they were over and even through her sadness, she felt a little bit lighter as if some small weight had been lifted off her shoulders. She would never forget Mick but she realized something, as she laid down in her bed, as nice and caring, as Mick had been they were never meant for each other they were completely different in every way. But, she new inside her heart that it was going to be all right for she had Patricia and all her other housemates to depend on for support. She then heard a small knock on her door. “Come in,” she said trying to sound happy. Jerome then opened the door and came in; he walked over to Mara and sat down next to her. Without a word he gave her a friendly hug and whispered in her ear “If you ever need to talk I’m always here for you,” he then gave her a smile and left the room. Although Jerome had hated Mick and Mara together, he realized that Mara was in pain and still trying to pull herself together and he respected that, and he was proud of himself for not blurting out I told you so. As Jerome walked to his room, he did a fist pump and had a silent celebration inside his head.
The next morning Mara was a lot happier than usual the other house members had expected her to be sad and depressed that Mick was gone but that night Mara had pulled herself together. At the breakfast table, everyone seemed to understand that it was a time of silence, and closure, for Nina and Fabian stopped looking worried, Patricia seemed happy and at peace, Amber did not even look awake, Joy looked bored, Alphie was just Alphie, and Jerome was so happy he was at a loss for words. Even Victor seemed a little less cranky. On the way to school, Jerome asked Mara if she would fancy walking with him. Mara agreed and they walked speaking only in small phrases trying to savor the peacefulness of the morning. When at school the Anubis house students all went their separate ways until they reached 2nd hour where they all have language arts together. After class had already started, Joy rushed in trying to not be noticed Jerome immediately asked, “Where were you Joy kissing a picture of Fabian?” Alphie and Jerome broke into laughter, Fabian blushed and tried to hide behind his book, and Joy gave Jerome an icy stare. For Mara, the day seemed to last forever. Eventually the school day came to an end Mara trudged up stairs to her room feeling tired and grateful that it was Friday. Patricia then came in and told her dinner was ready. Mara then followed Patricia down stairs and to the dinner table; she sat down in an empty seat that Jerome quickly occupied. Alphie feeling restless with the quiet started jabbering on about how Victor had once again given him toilet duty. Then Alphie still mad at everyone for being so quiet threw his cheeseburger across the table. The burger landed on Jerome’s face everyone watched as the grease dripped down his nose and on to his shirt. Jerome sat in silence for a minute but then grabbed a handful of French-fries and with a laugh threw them into Fabians hair. Fabian then grabbed his glass of water and splashed the contents on Patricia. Eventually everyone joined in the food fight, Mara squirted ketchup into Jerome’s hair while Nina threw a handful of salt at Amber and Joy poured Milk on Patricia’s head. Eventually Victor figured out what was going on and sent everyone to his or her rooms to clean up and go to bed, even though it was only 6:00. Jerome called dibs on the shower so he could get the ketchup out of his hair but he took forever, and Fabian really wanted to get the grease out of his hair, and Alphie just wanted to get the food off his body. After everyone was clean, they all went to bed. Usually nights in the Anubis house are full of sneaking out and getting in trouble but tonight was a night of peaceful sleep.
The next day was a Saturday, a day of relaxation and no school. Jerome woke up feeling great, Alphie was up trying to put his shirt on not realizing his head was through the sleeve. “Today is a great day my friend,” Jerome said with a laugh while slapping Alphie on the back causing Alphie to fall over. “Why is that?” Alphie said while finally getting his shirt on properly. “Today I will conquer all that matters!” Jerome replied in a loud dramatic voice. “You’re just excited that Mick is gone for good,” Alphie said smiling at his friend’s happiness. “Could be true,” Jerome said while putting on a black vest. Jerome laughed at himself for being so happy and went into the kitchen. “Good morning,” he said to Patricia and Joy who were trying to cook breakfast and utterly failing, for the housemother was away for the weekend. “Why are you so happy?” Joy asked, for she was in a foul mood. “Oh no reason,” Jerome replied with a laugh and then he went into the dining room. “Nina, Fabian, how are you today?” Jerome shouted. “Um, good I guess,” Nina, replied. “Well that’s fantastic!” Jerome said. “Um, I don’t want to sound rude Jerome but what’s with you today?” Fabian asked. “Well… today just happens to be one of the best days of my life!” Jerome replied. “Okay then,” Fabian said. “Oh, and by the way have you seen Mara?” Jerome asked with hope in his voice. “Ah, I see, well I think Mara is still sleeping she had a rough day yesterday,” Nina replied. “Oh, I see well goodbye then,” Jerome said while heading back towards to his room he would not let his day be ruined because of a minor setback.
